I would still use "Everybody" as the introductory album to anyone new to her music though. So I do like it in spite of sounding a bit negative. Ingrid and Matt Kearney manage to make me really like "One Night Town", in spite of it being about singing "oh oh". It's the upbeat, it's all going to be okay song of the album in the tradition of "Do It Now" and "Soldier", though she's not on the bus this time. "Afterlife" is the highlight of the album for me. ![]() It's catchy but I don't think it has staying power. "Girls Chase Boys" seems like her "What's a girl gotta do to get a Grammy nomination around here?" song. There isn't enough of Ingrid on all of them, but we get a couple more tracks than her previous albums so it's like a bonus track anyway. There are a lot of different voices on the album, which I like because I have an Ingrid playlist that I use a lot (I like her music that much) and it's nice to sprinkle in some other voices (though I already have her bandmates Allie Moss and Bess Rogers on there too, check them out if you like her music). "Home" and "Wonderful Unknown" are the ones that stand out as far as expressing something new. I'm a little surprised to find her still with so many songs about heartbreak after having been married for several years now. There's an awful lot of variations of "oh oh"-ing which is a pretty solid indicator that you don't have enough to say. I just expect more from her, especially lyrically. With all that said, I do quite like most of the album. She's been moving away from that though, there was less of it on the previous album "Human Again" so if you prefer that album to her earlier stuff you'll probably be happier than I am with this one. ![]() Many of my favorite Ingrid songs are with the guitar being prominent. There is a little on the opening track "Home" but it's mostly drowned out by everything else going on, and surprisingly a little banjo on "You Got Me", but that's it. It took me a while to put my finger on what was missing but there's practically no acoustic guitar on the album.
